We’ve created everyday democracy resources for schools in Kirklees to make sure that our young citizens can have a voice in the things that affect their everyday lives.
Kirklees Youth Council made this video to share some of the great things they have been doing in 2020, the first year of our Democracy Friendly Schools programme.
We’re offering a safe and flexible one hour session that will help children and young people to learn what local councillors do, share how they feel about life in their local place right now, and explore opportunities to work together with councillors on community projects.
Our thanks to the staff and pupils of Hillside Primary School and to the Newsome ward councillors, who were the first to try out our new style “Meet your councillors” session in October as part of Local Democracy Week 2020.
Can your school community help to try out some creative activities to explore everyday democracy? We’ve been inspired by all the creative things young people have been doing during lockdown…
We’re excited to introduce our two pilot high schools for our new Democracy Friendly Schools programme.
