Got a great idea for making your local place even better? Want to connect with others who can help make it happen and raise funds to get going? Growing Great Places, run by Kirklees Council in partnership with Spacehive, can help you to get that great idea off the ground.

Dozens of local groups and organisations have already been successful, with their projects being backed by almost 2,000 local people and organisations. Here are a few recent examples…

  • Holme Deliveries
Crowdfunding with Growing Great Places has helped EPIKs, a not-for-profit volunteer run organisation, to introduce e-cargo bikes for delivery services in the Holme Valley. They want people to be part of the start of a cleaner, greener way to boost local business by delivering goods in an environmentally friendly way. 66 people and organisations backed the project, which raised £22,099.

  • Toftshaw Pit Hill Pond
Friends of Toftshaw ran a successful crowdfunding campaign during the Covid lockdown to rejuvenate a local space for people and wildlife. They raised £8,327 from 40 backers. Read project creator Viv’s story on our blog:

  • Save Our Space in Outlane
Outlane Methodist Church needed to raise money to keep their community building open, so they can support many weekly community groups. They raised £9,670 from 44 backers.

  • Riverside Way Revamp
River Holme Connections wanted to reverse 20 years of neglect by improving the footpath surface and drainage the 9.6 mile Riverside Way walking route. They raised £23,902 from 82 backers to make their project possible.

These are just a few of the ways that Growing Great Places projects are helping their communities to connect and thrive – and we’re keen to support many more.

We’re now launching our next Growing Great Places funding round, for groups anywhere in Kirklees who are aiming to start crowdfunding this summer. Successful projects could receive a pledge of up to £5,000 from Kirklees Council.
